Dry shampoo is a spray that can be used periodically to clean and absorb natural hair oils. With advances in hair product technology, they effectively clean while adding just a bit of body and volume – as if you just washed your hair. Conditioners for dry or chemically treated hair are heavier than those for normal hair and take into account the special needs of moisture-starved dry or chemically treated hair. Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is imperative to promote healthy hair and scalp. The list below will give a guide for which shampoo and conditioner is good for each hair type.
Dry: Egg shampoos with softeners and protein components are recommended for dry hair. Oily: Citric juice or malic acid component in shampoos helps manage oily hair better. Curly/Coarse: Creamy moisturizing shampoos come highly recommended in the management for curly or coarse hair. Shampoos containing wheat germ oil, shea butter and nut oils such as macadamia nut oil or even coconut oil are good. Protein based shampoos and shampoos with silicone or almond oil help detangle and soothe out frizziness.
Fine/Limp: Clear and gentle shampoos are ideal for fine or limp hair. Shampoos containing panthenol are considered the best it helps in making hair strands look thicker. Colored/Treated: Colored hair needs to be washed with color protection shampoos that can help preserve the color and retain moisture as well. Conditioners
Dry: Humectants are compounds that help in retention of moisture in hair and moisturising conditioners or deep conditioners that contain humectants work well. Oily: Conditioners which are oil free are the ideal choice for oily hair. Fine/Limp: Protein conditioners or volumising conditioners are the ideal products to choose for fine or limp hair. Colored/Treated: Rich and thick conditioners that help in retention of color are recommended in the management of treated hair. Most products work well for hair for both men and Women, but recently more companies have started men’s exclusive hair styling lines to encourage men to use products to keep their hair looking tip top.
Be cautious when purchasing hair care products to avoid products that contain high levels of alcohol which might dry out your hair. The first products you should use on your hair are shampoo and conditioner, and it is important to use good quality products. They add moisture to your hair and help the hair deal with the drying effects of the styling products that you will be applying later.
Hair gels are generally a firmer hold styling product than a mousse. Many gels are used to give a slicked back appearance to the hair if applied to dry hair, or used as a general styling product if applied to damp or wet hair. Like most other products there are finish creams and anti Frizz products that are specific to different Hair Colors.
Specially prepared oils are massaged into your scalp, then brushed through the hair. These oils are specifically chosen to address your particular needs – perhaps oily scalp, sensitive scalp, dryness, or extreme hair damage. Start with dry hair and part hair into four or more sections. Use a natural boar-bristle brush to work the oil through your hair. Then, you must rinse your hair thoroughly again and leave your hair to air dry.
